Silver Bay Overo Filly
D.O.B. 22/10/08 - 1/5/09
BH 17 inches.
2/3 USA.
We waited so long
for this little darling to arrive. We were absolutely over the moon with
her. She was perfect in every single way. So sweet how she was deaf just
like her darling mama, and she was just the spitting image of her mum
Angel when she was born.

Above: Chilli when first clipped, one week before her accident. Life was going
along swimmingly for little Chilli, until New Years Day we wake
up to find our perfect 9wks old filly with a smashed hock. The
vet thinks it had been stood on while she was sleeping. For 9
wks I had locked her and Angel in a stable EVERY single night.
But just ONCE I don't and this is what happens.
I will update as Chilli continues
her brave fight......
1/1/09 - What a way to
start the Year. Our darling Chilli with a smashed hock. The
bottom of her tibia was also crushed. Obviously, not something
that can be mended, even by surgery. We are keeping her alive
and just taking each day as it comes. As she is so tiny and
weighs so little, we are hoping she can adjust. Only time will
tell...
Update 20/1/09 - Chilli has become accustomed to
life on 3 legs so easily. She is such an
inspiration. She has now had 2 weeks with no pain
killers, and is in no obvious pain. She is
incredible. So full of life and hope and brings us
so much joy. She is now putting slight weight on the
tip of her toe when standing still.

Update
24/2/09 - Chilli is still coping really well. Obviously has
severe muscle wastage in the bad hip, very strong in the other 3
joints. Likes to buck and kick around on 3 legs, we even
saw her jump a little log the other day. She makes me hold my
breathe many times, and I am getting greyer by the day watching
the little dare devil. Still has the sweet wonderful disposition
she was born with. And always pleased to see you for cuddles and
kisses!
Update
15/3/09 - Chilli is much the same. Full of beans and tearing
around like a mad woman! I do worry how she will be in the
future due to her good back leg turning out to carry the extra
weight, and now her offside front foot is also turning quite
considerably to carry the "bad side". She has got so muscley in
the chest due to doing so much extra work in the front. She is
still pain-free though and still appears to be enjoying life. As
long as life is full of carrots, cuddles and kisses!
Oh and she has
taken to pig rooting at the dogs when she runs past them! Poor
Harry has been kicked in the head twice, just from standing in
the wrong place at the wrong time. Not impressed is Harry!
Final Update -
1/5/09.
Life has
become so hard and starting to be painful for our Beautiful
Chilli. The pressure on her three good legs has just become too
much and causing her little legs to grow quite deformed. She is
starting to trip in the front if not being extra careful. The
last fortnight of her life, you could see she was starting to
get some pain.
Chilli was
laid to rest behind our house, in her daddy's paddock. I
couldn't bear to have her too far from me. I miss everything
about this beautiful little girl and will miss her forever...
Her beautiful memory will live on at Willoughby Park forever and
ever.
LOVE YOU AND
MISS OUR LIL CHILLI DOG..
XOXOXOXO
