Flash and Tiger...

August 2008  we sold our two special little geldings, WP Apache Flash and WP Dreamcatcher, together to a wonderful FOREVER home with the Clark family in Childers.... .Flash and Tiger were made part of the family and these boys were just loved to pieces. I was so particular were these little boys went and they HAD to be kept together. These boys had a lovely life, even being taken to the beach for Christmas last year (2008)!!

July 2009, Flash after just not seeming himself, was sadly diagnosed with a heart murmer, The Clarks as well as myself were just so devastated by the news. We were all hoping with the TLC he was given by his family he could live a relatively healthy life for as long as possible. Sadly within a month Flash was gone. 2 short years of life, and less than a month from his diagnosis. This was just the most heartbreaking news.

A Beautiful drawing done by Kimberly, Flash's owner when they lost him... The likeness is incredible.

We were all so worried how Tiger would cope. As they had big horses as well and Tiger was used to them, he adjusted quite well, quite quickly. MUCH to everyones relief....

Then last week , the week before Christmas 2009, Tiger was tragically bitten by a brown snake. How cruel can life be???? This would be one of the best pet homes I have ever found for my horses, and to lose both of these beautiful little men in such a short space of time was just the cruelest thing ever....  I am pleased their final resting place is with with the lovely family who loved them so much. Where they all had such happy memories....

I would like to thank the Clark family from the bottom of my heart for giving these little boys the home I dreamt of for them. We all thought they would have grown into little old men together with you all and be a joy for many years to come. I always thought I had so much time to visit them, when we were up that way...But it wasn't to be. I know they joy they gave me while I had them and the short time you had them will stay with us forever. These two special little boys had grown up together, and sadly could obviously not live without each other...

Flash and Tiger, R.I.P, our beautiful little boys. Forever young.....

RIP our Beautiful Little Chilli girl.....

Once in a lifetime a very special foal comes along, one that will leave little hoofprints in your heart forever. This little foal was Bella.  Bella was born to our leased mare Blaze and was by our stallion, Jack aka Southern Star Flashback. We were so excited about this mating. Jack being a very striking Sabino stallion, and Blaze being a well bred splashed white mare. We were hoping for some decent "chrome" work and beautiful type. This was the first foal for BOTH of them!

Bella was born while we were at work. I got a call on my way home from hubby Steve, to say "Will you be long? Blaze has foaled, the foal is fine but theres something wrong with her feet". Not expecting anything major, just happy and relieved all went well....

I was shocked to find what i did when i got home. This beautiful little filly, PERFECT in every single way, except these terrible little back legs she was shuffling around on. Bella was severely down on her back pasterns, she was practically walking on her fetlocks. We quickly locked them up in the stable of deep sawdust for a couple of days to see what would happen. Most people i talked to were saying, she will come right if you lock her up. After 3 days of NO improvement, the vet was called. He said he had never seen them that bad, and couldn't see them coming right on their own. The tendons were just so so loose. It went against everything he believed in, but he decided to splint. So splint we did for the next 3 months....we gave Bella lots of vitamins to help with the growing and strengthening progress as well. She really blossomed and grew into the most beautiful little girl. Her dear mum Blaze took it all so well.  her first foal and this is what she got! Taken from her friends, being stabled every single night and let into a very small yard during the day. She was such a good mum. Bellas splints caused much drama at times with rubbing and causing pressure sores, they were being changed 3 times a week. We would come home from work, and could always tell if they had started rubbing as Bella would have been chewing on them through the day. So that night they would get changed. My darling hubby was so patient. He never complained.

As she would have a growth spurt the vet would come and make new splints for her.  It was draining on all involved.  Bella would lay in my arms and sleep while Steve changed the splints. Blaze would watch over us, as though she knew we were doing all we could to help her baby girl.

Bella zoomed around on her little splints like there was no tomorrow. She was quite an indendent little thing. She would neigh when she saw me coming every morning and night. How could you not fall hopelessly in love with her!!

After a month it appeared the tendons were getting stronger. The vet was surprised, but felt there was actually some "hope".... My heart just soared. I was so excited as i had never loved a little foal like i loved this little girl. I think the news even bought a big lump, to hubbies throat...

But then as she grew more,  the tendons loosened again. we started to lose hope, but still kept fighting for this brave little girl. I said to Steve, Bella will tell me when shes had enough.

At the end of 3 mths she told me. ... Bella was starting to get really upset with changing the splints and the glint in her eye had gone. It was like she told she had had enough of this world. She started to look depressed and at this time Blaze, her mum, started to get sick of the isolation from her friends. Both of them had changed in their nature.  It was time.....Bella had told me she had enough. We took the splints off as they were just rubbing so badly again, and just bandaged her little feet and legs. We would get the vet down on the weekend. She shuffled around like this for 3 days. They were back to the same as they were the day she was born within no time at all of removing the splints....

On the day Bindi had her accident and had to be put down, we chose to have Bella put down. It was the saddest day in my life of owning horses. We buried Bella and Bindi together next to my big beautiful boy Sid. So neither little girl are alone, and they have Sid as their protector.

I nearly gave up the horses after losing Bella, it was a hard thing to keep going with them. I just kept asking WHY BELLA???? We had bred the sort of foal you dream of and we only had her for 3 short months. It really made me not want to breed again. I have decided to downsize my stud and only breed a couple of foals each season though. They can bring so much joy, but heartache like you have never known.
We decided to buy Blaze rather than send her back at the end of  her lease. I felt she was the only link i still had to baby Bella. Plus i felt i owed it to Blaze with all she had put up with. My beautiful friend Renee, now owns Bellas daddy Jack, and is letting me send Blaze down to try for a beautiful full sibling to Baby Bella.

I have photos below at the different stages of Bellas short life...

What a sad sad day when we lost this gorgeous girl in Feb 2008.  Aged 17mths. Bindi as we called her, (she was born at the time Steve Irwin tragically passed away) had the sweetest nature and thought the whole world was wonderful. She was the prettiest girl and really stood out from the moment she was born. We knew that crossing her mum Silver Star Miss Mysterious would be a wonderful cross with our boy Arrow, and we weren't disappointed. Bindi's name Cocheta, means "that you cannot imagine" in Native American. This pretty colourful young girl was certainly not we imagined in a million years. Bindi was very accident prone and sadly had to be put down due to a paddock accident. It was a very upsetting day.

Bindi is one of those special little horses that we  just won't forget.

RIP you sweet sweet girl, Bindi Boo....

Bay Standardbred 14.2hh.

Sidey Time (pronounced Side - ee) was born in Timaru New Zealand 4th of October, 1976, to the mare "Sedation" his sire being "Historic Time". "Historic Times " sire being by one of the American standardbreds most legendary sires , "Good Time" Sid was exported to Australia when he was a 2yr old. He won many many many races in his day. The only horse he raced, that he couldn't beat was the infamous Wondai's mate.... Sid was my first horse....Nothing is like a girls first horse and first dog! I owned Sid just over 21years.... Sid was given to me for my 18th birthday by an ex-boyfriends parents who were into pacers in Maryborough, Qld. They had a small string of horses they used to race and Sid was given to me when they retired him.

He was the best horse a girl could ever wish to buy let alone be given. He was perfect in every way and I could canter all day on him. ... He had the best canter.... We rode many many wonderful miles together and I spent hours caring for him. His needs always came first and this was the way it was until the very end. My family always said he was treated like a king. He wanted for nothing. Sid was retired as my riding horse at 21 after arthritis flared up in an old injury in his hock... He didn't mind though. It was a sad day for me ... As no horse could compare to Sid. Sid was horrified when we got our first mini in 1998 after buying our farm. What a ridiculous waste of grass were his thoughts.... Sid had a couple of big horse paddock mates in the time I had him, but he preferred being on his own. Until I found Zak, another ex-trotter who I bought about the year 2000. Sid really mated up with him. The first time ever!

Sadly Sid had to be put down on the 16th of August, 2006. I came home from work to find him totally lame and unable to move one back leg. He had broken his pelvis and at almost 31 years old, there wasn't anything we could do for him. He has been laid to rest near our dam under a big shady peppercorn tree. His best mate Zak fretted big time for days, (which made it all the harder for me!) but he got over it ok with lots of TLC. I still feel he is out there waiting for a carrot or a feed. I think it will feel that way for a long long time. Having Zak, Sids best mate, still makes me feel like I have a small link to my darling Siddy.

I owned you more than half my life my darling boy. Thank you for 21 years of Pure Joy... I hope you have a lovely big trotting track , full of endless green grass in the middle.

Bubbles was a darling little bay mare of 34" that we bought Easter 06 from Victoria. She was parents unknown, but there was something about her photo on Small Sales caught my eye. She was the dam of some magnificent foals and this was the decider for me. I picked her up when down at the nationals at Tatura and she was such a funny sight at the show. This big fat bay hairy girl amongst all these little slick slim show conditioned horse. Bubbles had the kindest eye and I fell instantly in love with her.

We bought her supposedly in foal to a little silver dun stallion, but she ended up not being in foal. It didn't matter as we were planning on putting her to our little Arrow the following season. Bubbles came home and fitted in so well. She was never any trouble to have around and was just so damn cute and cuddly through winter. I never saw her put her ears back, kick or anything that resembled a vice.
She was a remarkable little girl. We put her to Arrow in November, when we realised that she wasn't in foal and she went in foal easily the first cycle.
Within weeks she had gone very lame on me. I knew it was founder, as our first mini Nikky had suffered with this dreadful problem on and off when we had her. I stabled Bubbles, reduced her lucerne and protein intake and had her constantly on drugs.
Nothing was working and she was gradually getting worse. the vet came and diagnosed that darling Bubbles pedal bones had dropped. The vet feels it was bought on from the hormones of being put in foal. There was nothing the vet could do..... The kindest thing to do was to put her to sleep....

I only owned this beautiful girl for 8 short months but I bonded with her more than some I have had for years. Everyone who breeds minis, needs a Bubbles in their life, to make you realise how precious these little animals are.

Rest In Peace my beautiful Bubbley girl....
